Go Topless Day
When they are talking about a topless day, they aren’t talking about shirtless men being able to walk the streets not wearing a shirt. I don’t think there is really a law anywhere not allowing that, but I could be wrong. When they say Go Topless Day, they are referring to women going topless. It has been legal in New York City for women to go topless since 1992. In 1992, the courts reversed New York City’s laws that punished a female for going topless. The law was found to not be fair to women because they weren’t being given the same rights as men.
Topless Women
Imagine walking down the street and suddenly a woman wearing nothing on top, walks by. Or all the women on the street are topless. Sounds like a mans dream if all the boobies are young and beautiful. Only thing is, there is no age limit. I think the site could be a bit funny but embarrassing to the women who are clothed. It’s not a well known law and only a few women at this time have been seen going around the city topless.
The Story Began
It all began with the Topfreedom movement. A group of women seeking equal rights with men. They sought the right for women to have the same right as men to bare their chest in public. They also sought for the rights of mothers nursing their babies to not have to hide while breast feeding their babies. They protested how men and boys were able to go to the beach and get a complete tan and not suffer the tan lines that women do. They sought the right for women to be permitted to sun bathe at the beach or pool without being covered on top. I cannot say I will join in with the protest and go topless on August 26th, I agreed with the burning of the bra, but I love my shirts.
