Good news for the Malaysians - Avril Lavigne's concert will be held in the country as per schedule. The Canadian singer's performance was previously banned after Parti se-Islam Malaysia, which is an Islamist party, opposed, fearing that Malaysian teens would be heavily influenced by Western pop culture, especially when the National Day is near. Eventually, the decision was reversed after some convincing assurances by the organizer, Bernama. "In giving the approval, the cabinet also instructed the (arts and culture) ministry to monitor the concert to ensure that the performances do not clash with the Malaysian culture and values," said the Arts and Culture Minister Mohamad Shafie Apdal. Avril will perform as scheduled on 29th August, 2 days ahead of Malaysia's national day, in the country's capital city Kuala Lumpur. Source: reuters
