Ou, a 26 year old young woman from Beijing. lived in an apartment on the 18th floor of a group of apartment with 2 friends.
She as many others do, would hang out her wash on an electric run clothes line strectching out from her balcony.
On this particular day, as Ou was more then likely standing on a stool on her balcony which is only 3 feet high hanging out her wash, she fell.
As she fell the 18 stories or 200 feet, her fall would have reached a speed of over 60 miles per hour.
Luck was with Ou that day. She landed on a bush and then the snow. She was also wearing a very thickly padded winter jacket. All of this broke the blunt of her hitting the ground. She survived and was found by a man, as he passed by her in the snow, walking his dog. Amazingly she only received quite a few fractures. She is lucky to be alive.
A 48 year old man got a ransom note left at the scene where some items he had were taken. To get them back, he had to call a telephone number.
This story took place in the Florida Keys. The items stolen were not the typical item you would find a ransom note for, it was the mans marijuana plants, all 6 of them. He had them growing in an empty, treed lot in Marathon Florida.
The note wasn't left by who you would have thought it was left by. In fact the note was left by the the sheriffs department. They honestly did not think the owner of the plants would ever call to get them back.
The department received an anonymous call from a local person with a tip about the plants. The police went and took the plants leaving the note behind.
The note read, "Thanks for the grow. You want them back? Call for the price...let's talk."
Believe it or not, it was only about 20 minutes after they left the note that the call came in. He wanted his plants.
After haggling over an amount for the ransom, they finally agreed on $200.
They set up a time and place to meet. Instead of meeting some local thiefs, the man met up with dectectives. He paid them the agreed upon price. Then he was arrested.
They charged him with growing and selling marijuana. Having items for using drugs on him. He also had a diary of how he had taken care of the plants. When he put fertilizer on them, watered them and cut them for us.
The guy also had names for the plants. One was named TNT and the other was Diesel.
I guess it is possible this time of year that it could happen. A set of twins being born, either by the normal birth or cesarean sections, could be born on not only two different days, but two different years.
That is what happened in Tampa, Florida this year. A set of twin boys, arriving 10 weeks early were delivered by a C-section at the Tampa General Hospital.
Marcello was delivered right before the turn of the year, still on Dec 31st. 2009 while his brother Stephano arrived on January 1st just after midnight.
Their father was happy with the happenings saying that it would be nice for the boys to have thier own birthday parties.
They will have to remain in the hospital for about 8 weeks. Then they will be able to go home.
Raina Kumra, an internet designer advisor, was at the White Slab Palace bar.. She reported that she was just minding her own buisness when a large moose head fell on her.

Billy Joe Sanders bought himself a house. It was a house located in Canonburg, Pennsyvlvania.
He had attended a tax sale of Washington County and purchased the house for $5,500 last August.
When he went to take a look at the house he had purchased, it wasn't there!
He later found out it had been dismantled. The county's department of renovation had been given permission to have it leveled.
Maybe some people don't know of a little clause in the purchase of an item at a tax sales. It is addressed as the "buyer beware," clause. It makes the purchaser take on the reponsibility of doing the foot work and paper work to make sure the property is there and ok. It is really just doing a little check on the property being sold.
If a piece of property is listed to be leveled, most of the time the owners are given notice, but there are times it slips on by.
Sanders isn't happy and plans on trying to get his money back.
A funeral home in Rome, Georgia, offered free burial services to patrons who signed a contract stating that they planned to drink or use drugs on 12/31/2009 and then drive.
The deal was, that if they did what they stated in the contract and died in a automobile accident, that the funeral home would bury them at no cost.
The funeral would consist of a casket, body readiness, the plot and a ride to the grave yard.
It is was referred to as the "Operation Stop and Think" promotion. You would hope anyone signing the contract would stop and think about what they were doing before drinking and then driving. Also any others would also think about the consquences of drinking or using drugs and then driving.
I don't know if any of the contracts were fullfilled or not. I do hope they weren't.
A man, walks into a restaurant in Warren Michigan and orders a coffee. The only thing about this incident is, he had a knife that was 5 inches long protruding out of his chest. He even managed to make a complaining remark about the weather.
The man, 52 years of age, called 911 that Sunday evening and asked for an ambulance to come to the diner.
He reported that the stabbing happened while someone had apparently been trying to rob him a half mile away. After being stabbed, he walked the 1/2 mile to the diner to call 911. He needed a pay phone.
The call was taped and the man had given a pretty good discription of his assailant. He told the 911 operator that the diner had a place he could sit down and get out of the cold, so he would wait for the ambulance there.
The man asked for coffee and it is said he is going to be all right.
In Chicago, Louie Saunders had been away for a short while.
While he was gone, his friends pulled the ultimate prank. They filled his apartment with wrapped gifts. He will be spending a long time unwrapping gifts to find the hidden treasure.
The only problem with the whole set up is, the wrapped gifts are in reality all his things that were in his apartment when he left.
They went as far as wrapping his sofa and drinks they found in the fridge.
The head of the caper is his trusted friend, Adal Rifai. He had allowed Adal to have an extra key to his apartment. It took Adal along with 15 other people around 8 hours to wrap it all. The used 35 tubes of christmas wrap to accomplish the feat.
So far, Louie has only been able to open about 10% of the wrapped items.
At least he knows he needs the items he is unwrapping, but maybe from now on, he will be leary of leaving an extra key with a friend.
In Sydney Australia, a real life Santa has made life easier for many people the last two years.
Last year, he allowed people to enter his home and take anything they wanted. He actually gave everything away.
This year, he did it a little different. He put together a shop in a building and put stuff in it for others to just take what they wanted of his, but he also asked other people to contribute if they wanted to.
"It's a lovely thing to do to continue the spirit of Christmas" Stevenson told Reuters on Thursday.
Dennis Stevenson, the real life santa, opened his shop to the public on Dec 22nd. He has stated that at least 90 percent of the items have been picked by people and taken.
