Diamond Was Worth $13,000
A thief who probably thought he was for sure going to get away with the robbery of a diamond valued at $13,000 was mistaken. The owner of the diamond saw the Chinese man swallow the diamond and alerted the police. He must have thought that if he swallowed it, they would search him and find nothing. This time this thief was mistaken.
Owner Calls the Police
The owner after seeing the Chinese man swallow the diamond called the police right away. Earlier the man had been in the shop with another man. They had twice gone into stalls where they could check out diamonds. The other man was no where to be found once the owner noticed the man swallow the gem.
The diamond Was a Fake
After being taken into custody, the Chinese man was given laxatives to enable him to pass the gem. Once he did, they found it to be a fake. They now believe that the other man who was in the store at an earlier time with the thief stole the stone. It may have all been a set up to take the attention off the real thief as he snuck out the door. Once the owner saw the thief swallow the stone, all his attention was on that man allowing the other to possibly leave. Or he may have simply stolen it earlier. The captured thief was most likely suppose to replace the real diamond with the fake one. He had 6 other fake gems in his pocket. The two are thought to possibly be addicted wrongdoers of this type. They go around stealing the real stones while replacing them with fakes. The two had been in the shop a few times before this happened. The Chinese man may have swallowed the gem when he knew the owner caught him and suspected him of stealing.
